TECHKC HOME

Update History file:

February 25, 2003 Updated CCARC site with meeting info

January 5, 2003 Several updates have occurred since June. I just keep forgetting to list them here. I will see if I can't do a little better in the coming year.  Plans for this year at TechKC are as follows.  The streaming Audio / Video support on the site has been discontinued.  We were paying for it but it didn't work correctly most of the time.  Maybe it was the way I set it up, I don't know but I do know it was over a $100 a year for something we were not using. I plan to begin adding Flash to the site and a Firearms Collectors and Reloaders Section.  My goal is to create a full flash site using Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Freehand, and Macromedia Authorware. but my time is limited and this plan has been slow to materialize. Well more notes and plans later.

June 14, 2002 - Added Larry Staples newsletter to the CCARC site. entry of this info maybe sporadic for a while. I am trying to devise away to automate the addin of Larry's newsletter which comes to me via email so it is posted as soon as it is received. made a few minor changes to spruce things up a little cause its been a while since I have had time to get in here and edit.

June 11, 2002 - Got new information today from Larry Phillips, W0FP, President of CCARC that needed posted. - Its done.

April 14, 2002 - Helped Janna finish her web page about Ham Radio. No Authorware tutorial but it looks good anyway..

December 21, 2001 - I have been extremely busy, however not so busy that I haven't been thinking about the site. Just busy enough that what I have been doing doesn't show much.  I am growing increasingly irritated with my current page editor. Front Page 2000. and am actively seeking an alternative.  So far I am leaning toward a combination of Macromedia products to spruce up the site.  This week we added Janna's Page. My Daughter Janna worked very hard on this as part of a school project please visit it and email her your opinions. She would love to hear from you. We will hopefully be adding a very informative ham radio tutorial to her page including a Macromedia Authorware application demonstrating some of the operational characteristics of a Handy-Talkie.

October 10, 2001 - Technical problems beginning just after the last edit and are still continuing, combined with increased demands on my time from my real job. have made it very difficult to do much updating over the past month.  I am in full belief that most of the technical issues have been resolved. Thus updates to the board will resume.

September 16, 2001 - The last week has brought many changes. The home page has been temporarily modified to lend support and encouragement to the families touched by the terrorist attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon. The September meeting of the CCARC (Clay County Amateur Radio Club) voted TechKC/CCARC the official homepage for the Clay County Amateur Radio Club and authorized me to release the pages publicly. This was the new section I wrote of in the Sept. 9th journal entry.  Since then several changes have already been required to the CCARC section beginning today I will begin keeping logs for the CCARC section and the TechKC sections seperately. The CCARC log will be accessible from the CCARC home page.

September 09, 2001 - Wow, a lot has been done this last few weeks, some I can tell you and some I can't YET. I hope to be adding a new section that will be the home page for one of the local amateur radio clubs. As you can tell Amateur Radio is a hobby of mine and that's because the quality of people you meet in this hobby is astounding. Having these people regularly visiting the TechKC site can mean only a lot of great input on how to make this site a better place to visit. While it will not be my standard to furnish free website hosting, creation, and maintenance to just anybody these folks spend a great deal of their time and money investing in the community so in this case I am choosing to invest in them. I hope you all agree its a wise choice.

Now online is the KC Air show 2001 section. while I have plenty more stuff to add to this the first page is up and running in grand fashion. complete with several thumb nailed pictures and the ability to download the whole batch of stills in one package. (Its a huge download so I hope you have a broadband connection if you choose to download it.)

Also well into production but not online yet is Faye's Crafts. Hopefully ready for unveiling before Halloween, Faye has taken to creating this page herself. (I think she got tired of waiting on me). We will let you know when it is ready for viewing.

I also discovered that somewhere in the midst of moving things I think around the first of August I mistakenly removed the movies page. It will be coming back but it may be a bit yet. We pay a pretty good piece each month for the ability to do streaming video/audio so will definitely be putting these back online. I'll post something on the home page when they are back.

August 26, 2001 - A lot of changes have taken place over the past few weeks. Unfortunately I have barely had time to complete the changes, much less document them.  I have added several pages to the HAM section. and added a section for the Clay County Amateur Radio Club. Since the club officers have not had the chance to view this new section yet it is not available to the public at this time. However we hope to change that this week. I will list the site on the home page as soon as it is available. Also, we have added a page of thumb nailed pictures taken at the KC Air Show at Downtown Airport. This page is not fully functional yet either and should also be coming available this week.

August 05, 2001 - Well had a couple days off and got to use it on the board seeing as how some of my other responsibilities were for the moment at-least caught up. Added the entire Amateur Radio section as it is. (About 4 pages I think) Hope to add a lot more to this. Updated the home page with a new graphic. moved several of the pages around for the sake of better organization. (FrontPage really hates it when I do that) worked out several of the bugs in the links sections. It was actually a very productive few days. But I will be glad to get back to work.  I work to hard when I am on vacation. hehehe.

July 15, 2001 - Sooner than I thought, moved TKC Deer to homepages area and renamed to The Deer Journal, Began startup of Faye's Crafts Online and set up links to both from the Home Page of TKC.

July 15, 2001- Update the Deer Journal Home Page with a new picture and tidbit then linked to the old page from the new one so both would be available. Will be moving this whole section to the homepages area soon.

July 1-14, 2001- Added the S-capes Airbrush Section. created, added and removed an animated give to the S-capes homepage, the download time over dialup was just to long. Changed the home page to have a quicklink to whatever area of the board I had been working on most recently so users would have an easier time getting right to the new stuff.  Will expand this in the near future to 4 or 5 entries with dates. no-one is filling out the survey. This bites.  I need this info to see what folks want and what I should gear the board to.

June 1-30, 2001- Been a busy month, got quite a few things done on the site but forgot to update this page as I went. Many new links have been added to the homepages section.  The links section will soon cease to exist with its contents transferred over into the homepages section.

May 30, 2001 - Created an expected beginning list of courses for EduTechKC, updated the EduTechKC page, reworked Allene Malee's home page, It looks much better, and the pictures are smaller but are clickable to bring up their full size counterpart. Added homepage links for Sowfine97, and Appuring, both hosted elsewhere. Sent sowfine97 an email requesting that she drop the comet cursor from her pages due to security issues. Began linking grayed out entries in the software links page of Ted's Favorites. Researched Authorware Attain for possible use to create the EduTechKC tutorials.

May 29, 2001 - (PM) The link to TKC Homepages is now active. Not a lot there but its clickable.

May 29, 2001 - Not many changes in content but a few changes in the logic of how the board is designed and organized. TKC Family Pages is gone....May it rest in peace...It would have been a never ending battle and I didn't see it as being something the general public would be interested in. It may resurface in the homepages section someday when I have more time.  The NEW Homepages section is online but not available yet. This will be a spot where TechKC users can either upload home pages for posting on TechKC or email me links to their homepages elsewhere for addition to the list of TechKC users and direct linking from the TechKC homepages section. TechKC Links will soon be leaving as well. It will be combined with TKC home pages. The TKC links idea will still be supported but under the TKC home pages section.

May 27, 2001 - Added Wunderland banner to home page.  They don't pay me to do this but they don't charge me either. and I am able to give my users (99% from KC) recent weather info from there area. Note: that as I gain users from other locations this may be come a whole page of weather banners. Reworked the home page to better display the Wunderland banner.

May 24, 2001 - Fixed a problem where one of the frames pages was framing a copy of itself with the banner and catalog of the previous page. Reassigned some links.

May 23, 2001 - Took more references to TBD/The Burris Directory out, removed table borders in one of the user links pages, grayed many options that have not been implemented yet but were listed in the pages. Moved some files around if you couldn't get to your links page this is why you had to re-navigate to it.

May 22, 2001 - Took off the under construction light, removed two more links mentioning "The Burris Directory" Added a user survey page on the home page, grayed the non working links on the home page, Began planning the first tutorial .rm I really want the file to kick so I will use a combo of HTML and .RM if possible to make it happen.  Maybe some WMP instead of RM depends on what I can figure out how to incorporate in to the web page in the most fitting decorum.

May 21, 2001 - Still waiting and trying desperately to figure out how to make the KC weather icon from wunderland work on the my site. Renamed The Burris Directory/TBD to TechKC Supporting User Links Pages, edited and republished all files containing reference to The Burris Directory.

May 20, 2001 - Added the first edu page including a preliminary list of titles I plan to build some tutorials for. Added the crafts directory. Added the John Wayne slide show under links/0002 page. (This was built as an attention getter for a speech my daughter was to give at school, the specs said it was to be between 30 and 60 seconds in length. I think it came out pretty good. we left the last slide on screen for the entire speech. Added a couple new options for this real movie. The stream and download options have been renamed Sream Broadband and Download Broadband 2 new options have been added, Stream Dialup and Download Dialup these two options better support those with dialup connections but at the cost of some clarity and quality in the movie. File was compiled using a different target audience setting, and the result was a reduction in file size from 1.2Meg to 233K

May 18, 2001 - Rearanged directory structure for home page, Added edu directory, grayed many of the links to make it more obvious that they were not working and am preparing to take down the under construction home screen. It has become very apparent that a website is always under construction, all you can do is maintain some amount of usability while the construction continues and strive to be as un-noticeable as possible.

May 15, 2001 - Changed directory and file structures and page layout for Techkc Deer and changed directory structure for Family Pages to put them under TBD where they belong. Created and installed Family Pages Structure and Burris Family Tree page but am not significantly impressed with either, you can expect to see many more changes here in the near future.  I'll be creating some connecting Family Trees (Ramos) (Malee) (Adams) (Gray) (Swindt) (Evans) and some picture pages that you can link to from the names in the trees. Including some obituaries.  The video of The late Allene Malee will be moved to one of these pages.  Also, The first of the training videos is due to go online by June-15th. This will begin the push towards the true purpose of TechKC (Education).

May 13, 2001 - Rebuilt links on 0002 test page. Added download option on each of the real player videos to make it easier for those still connecting with dialup connections. Also since the downloadables are in .zip format this avoids situations where streaming media is blocked via firewalls etc. Note: ( This might seem a bit silly based on the content of my current videos but coming soon in real player format are software and operating system tutorials that even corporate entities will want their people to have access to.)

May 11, 2001 - Created .ram file to reference kcsky video, posted kcsky, added link to links 0002 test page, created frames page for techkc home and deleted non frame page. added history file link, created history file and posted.

May 10, 2001 - It works!! - After 2 weeks of fighting with it and several calls and emails to pegasus tech support I finally got streaming video working and posted real player video of my grandmother.
