BAK 2006 was kind of depressing. There wasnt time for much of anything except peddeling and sleeping.
John and I had to leave BAK on Day 5 after reaching Burden KS. when John was taken to the hospital with dehydration and
stomach cramps. (We believe it was likely the same Noro viris that took out nearly a hundred riders that year)
The entire ride was to be 485 Miles but John and I did a century everyday. Burden was day 5 and we had well over 500 miles
under our belt for the trip. Still we were very disappointed not to see the finish line.
Other than that the trip was definantly a challenge The wind on the second day was a steady 10 to 15 gusting to 25 and we
were riding straight into it. In addition to that this would have been the longest day. and the one of the days with the most climbs.
BAK was definately a challenge and I may try it again someday. My suggestions for anyone thinking of doing it.
MOTELS ARE GREAT!!!
Setting up and sleeping in a tent after 100 miles of biking for 6 days in a row... SUCKS!!
Good luck and safe journey!!
